Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Delhi, has officially announced a major update in its B.Tech admission process. As per a recent university notification, CUET (Common University Entrance Test) will now be used as a secondary admission channel for B.Tech programmes (Code 131).
What This Means for Aspirants
From the 2026 academic session onwards, B.Tech admissions at GGSIPU will follow a two-step merit process:
Primary admission through JEE Main merit list
Remaining vacant seats to be filled through CUET merit
This means that after all eligible candidates from the JEE Main merit list have been allotted seats, any leftover seats in B.Tech programmes will be offered to students based on their CUET scores.
Who Should Appear for CUET?
Even students aiming for B.Tech at GGSIPU are now advised to appear in CUET along with JEE Main. This creates an additional opportunity for candidates who may not secure a seat through JEE Main but still wish to pursue B.Tech from IP University.
CUET will effectively act as a backup and alternative pathway for admission to B.Tech courses under GGSIPU.
Official Approval and Implementation
This change has been approved by the competent authority of the Government of NCT of Delhi. The decision authorises the adoption of CUET as a secondary channel specifically for B.Tech admissions after exhausting the JEE Main merit list, starting from the 2025–26 admission cycle and continuing for 2026 and beyond.
Subject Requirements
Students must choose the relevant domain subjects in CUET as specified in the official GGSIPU Undergraduate Admission Brochure for 2026–27. Only those meeting the prescribed subject combination and eligibility will be considered for B.Tech admission through CUET.
Key Takeaway
JEE Main remains the primary and first preference route for B.Tech at GGSIPU.
CUET provides a second chance for admission if seats remain vacant.
Appearing in both JEE Main and CUET can significantly improve admission chances.
Stay Updated
Detailed subject mapping and eligibility conditions will be available in the official GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure on the university website. Aspirants targeting B.Tech at IPU should plan their exam strategy accordingly and not rely on a single entrance test.
